The “Made in China 2025” plan implemented by the Chinese government in 2015 transformed China from a low-value manufacturing center to a high-tech industrial center. Ten years later, China has achieved results in electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
During my stay in Hangzhou, I personally felt the progress of modern Chinese urban technology.
Almost all Didi private taxis in Hangzhou are electric vehicles, and few are powered by gasoline. We saw a variety of electric vehicle brands, including BYD, Xiaomi, AION, NIO, Li Auto, Geely, Zeekr, etc. The models of various brands shuttled through the streets and alleys, fully reflecting the booming market of the electric vehicle industry in China.
Compared with the US market, which is dominated by Tesla and smaller electric vehicle manufacturers such as Rivian and Lucid, China’s market ecology and ecosystem integrity are very different.
